Chinese Scholar and Faculty Adviser
Moon Festival Celebration

As part of China 100 the China Center, along with International Student and Scholar Services and the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance, hosted a Moon Festival Celebration for visiting scholars from the Greater China area and their University faculty advisers on September 18, 2013. To honor of this tradition, more than 100 visiting scholars and their faculty advisers attended the event, where they were able to meet visiting scholars from other University colleges while enjoying Chinese moon cakes and appetizers.

The afternoon event began with University President Eric Kaler welcoming visiting scholars and faculty advisers. He reminisced about his recent trip to China, where he visited some of their institution campuses in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, and Taipei. “We had a wonderful and productive trip with the goal of strengthening our strategic partnerships with ten Chinese universities and research centers,” President Kaler said. He went on to describe the long and deep history the University has with Chinese scholars and stated that he wanted that tradition to continue.

Associate Vice President and Dean of International Programs Meredith McQuaid and Counselors Weijia Chen and Shuhong Xu, of the People’s Republic of China Consulate General in Chicago, also greeted attendees. The University currently has 80 formal collaborative agreements with 30 different universities in China.
